ʻItʼs about giving young people opportunities to use their creativity and have fun, which acts as a vehicle to express themselves.ʼ Lily Labonte-Hurst, Head of Sport
Our extensive Sport service is a wide-ranging, holistic programme ranging from sessions for young people
to training and employment opportunities to support for grassroots community teams and initiatives. The
priorities for this work are to
- increase participation in physical and sporting activities amongst people in Camden
- ensure access to and affordability of sport for all young people
- promote girls' and women's football
- offer exit routes to young people at risk of social exclusion, through sport
- promote understanding of health, fitness and the benefits of sporting participation
- develop communication and coordination skills and enhance social and personal development, to build young people's confindence and self-esteem
- provide opportunities to gain additional training or coaching qualifications
- open doors to new possibilities, include careers in the sport and leisure industries
Sport meets these ambitious and diverse priorities through its well-coordinated and comprehensive
approach, which includes a packed year-round diary of sports sessions, initiatives and tournaments, the
creation of a forum for coaches from across northwest London, our ʻSporting Chance for the Futureʼ scheme- which provides a route to employment through volunteering - and plenty more. Sport also works incollaboration with both Play and Youth, ensuring that relationships with children, young people and staff aresupportive and well-informed. It is unique in its role across Camden, and a major partner in borough-wide sporting initiatives.
